Dance

A program for high school students who are suited for and dedicated to the study of dance. As dancers progress through the program, they will be guided to develop concentrated skill in either classical or contemporary concentrations ⟶

Dance students will participate in a curriculum of interdisciplinary arts education, utilizing a project-based instructional approach. They will work collaboratively with theatre, design and production, and music students on student-led/teacher-student co-directed creative works and productions.

Classical

Dancers will deepen their study of ballet and modern dance into advanced technique and variations classes, and build experience in dance composition. Carefully designed elective offerings in the areas of contemporary dance will also be provided. Students can be both pre-pointe or en pointe.

Contemporary

Dancers will explore advanced technique in contemporary dance, supported by a solid foundation in classical technique classes. Students will study dance composition and have the opportunity to select electives such as tap, salsa, and hip-hop.

Theatre Arts

This program is for high school students looking for a deeper experience in all aspects of theatre education. Students can choose from two concentrations ⟶

Theatre Arts students will participate in a curriculum of interdisciplinary arts education, utilizing a project-based instructional approach. They will work collaboratively with dance, design and production, and music students on student-led/teacher-student co-directed creative works and productions.

Acting

In-depth study in the foundations of acting, scene study, voice production, and literature. All actors receive some training in movement and singing.

Musical Theatre

Partnering with the voice concentration as a music major, students choosing this concentration participate in all foundational acting work but focus deeply on vocal production, participate in small group singing ensembles, and take dance for musical theatre.

Music

A program for high school students interested in growing their individual musicianship with non-traditional high school music-making opportunities. The concentrations offered in the ICON music major are ⟶

Music students will participate in a curriculum of interdisciplinary arts education, utilizing a project-based instructional approach. They will work collaboratively with dance, design and production, and theatre students on student-led/teacher-student co-directed creative works and productions.

Voice

Students receive individual and small group vocal lessons and participate in voice studio classes, build technical skills, study diction, and receive vocal coaching. Music theory, musicianship and basic piano skills are also covered.

PeRcussion & Piano

For individuals that have background in piano or percussion that want to learn how to accompany, improvise, expand their repertoire, and improve their technique, theoretical understanding, and musicianship. Students accompany for dance classes and also have the opportunity to perform recitals curated to their interests. Piano as well as a complete instrumentarium of tuned and untuned percussion instruments are utilized.

Composition

Students focus on fundamentals of music composition with opportunities to be mentored by current composers, creating their own pieces or sections of music that can be performed by peers or others in the greater community.

Design & Production

This program is for high school students who engage in the visual arts and want to take their work to the stage. Areas of study and possible concentration include ⟶

Throughout this program they will develop a strong foundation in visual art partnered with experience in all areas of stage design. These students utilize their skills and interests to visually bring the stage to life with backgrounds, props, lighting, and costumes that they have designed from concept to stage.

Design and Production students will participate in a curriculum of interdisciplinary arts education, utilizing a project-based instructional approach. They will work collaboratively with dance, music, and theatre students on student-led/teacher-student co-directed creative works and productions.

Visual Art

Drawing, Painting, 3D, with a strong focus on storytelling and expression.

Set Design

Create scenes and props for performances from the first concept sketches to building a model to constructing the set.

Costume Design

In-depth work in preparing actors for the stage such as developing sewing skills, designing and fitting costumes, wig-making, and make-up art.

Lighting and Sound Design

Develop the mood and tone of productions using color, texture, and sound effects. Coordinate lighting and sound with other elements of stage design such as costuming, props, and scenic design.

Scenic Painting/Sculpture

Paint (or build) on a large scale for backdrop/set.
